Bayern Munich to win at AEK Athens @ 13/50
Bayern eased the pressure on manager Niko Kovac by recording an impressive 3-1 Bundesliga triumph at Wolfsburg on Saturday, despite the 57th-minute dismissal of Arjen Robben. Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace at Volkswagen Arena and netted in a 2-0 away win at Benfica in this competition on Matchday 1, so he could be the key to seeing off opponents who are easy to oppose in our European football tips after two defeats in Group E so far, conceding three goals in each loss.
Ajax to beat Benfica @ Evens
Ajax have rekindled memories of their glory years in Europe with two fine performances in Group E, kicking off with a 3-0 drubbing of AEK Athens in Amsterdam and then taking a point off Bayern Munich in Germany. Erik ten Hag’s side have also been flying on the domestic front of late, hammering AZ Alkmaar 5-0 and Heerenveen 4-0 either side of the international break, so we’re backing them to maintain the momentum.
Man City to win at Shakhtar @ 2/5
City had already wrapped up top spot in their group when losing in Donetsk last season but will be fired up for this return visit. The Blues were beaten at home by Lyon on Matchday 1 and then only scraped past Hoffenheim, but they should be buoyed by Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Burnley in the Premier League and can now show their true worth in Europe against a Shakhtar outfit which has looked shaky in defence.
Man Utd and Juventus to draw @ 23/10
Juve got off to a flying start this term and Cristiano Ronaldo will be keen to impress at his former stomping ground, but Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Genoa in Serie A may just have taken some of the wind out of their sails. United have four points from two Group H games and would almost certainly settle for a share of the spoils here, having improved on the domestic front lately by beating Newcastle and drawing at Chelsea.
Valencia to win at Young Boys @ 19/20
Los Che are struggling in La Liga because of too many draws, seven in nine domestic matches, and need a boost in Group H after picking up just one point in two games. However, there was a lot to like about their display in a goalless stalemate at Manchester United on Matchday 2 and a repeat of that form could be good enough to see off Young Boys, who looked out of their depth when losing 3-0 to the Red Devils and Juve and are worth taking on again in our European football tips.
