Kansas City and Houston were involved in a couple of high-scoring thrillers last term but replicating those classic contests will be tough.

It is always easier for defences to prepare for a new NFL season and that should be even more apparent after a summer of disruptions this year.

We’re taking Evens for under 53.5 points in the game for our first Chiefs vs Texans prediction.

A Look At Kansas City Chiefs’ Betting Odds

The Chiefs produced an incredible comeback when rallying from 24-0 down to beat the Texans 51-31 in last season’s play-offs.

Kansas City went on to claim Super Bowl glory by seeing off Tennessee and then accounting for San Francisco 31-20 in Miami.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led an explosive offence, with wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins, plus tight end Travis Kelce giving him an impressive array of weapons.

However, using up a first-round pick on running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire suggests that Andy Reid would like to control the clock a little better.

Adding Chris Jones to the defensive line in free agency was a big boost but losing cornerback Bashaud Breeland to suspension for this game will put pressure on the secondary.

Looking at the Chiefs vs Texans odds, we think 17/5 for Kansas City to enjoy a steady success by 7-12 points appeals.

A Look At Houston Texans’ Betting Odds

Houston signal caller Deshaun Watson will be looking to celebrate his new four-year, $160million contract extension and has proven he can perform at Arrowhead Stadium.

He threw for one touchdown and ran in two more when the Texans claimed a surprise 31-24 triumph here in the regular season last October.

Cutting down on errors will be the key to Watson justifying that mega-bucks deal but losing star receiver DeAndre Hopkins will hurt this term.

The Texans acquired running back David Johnson as part of that trade with Arizona and he should team up well with namesake Duke in a dual threat at the position.

Elite defensive end JJ Watt staying healthy is crucial on the other side of the ball, but keeping Kelce in check will be difficult in this tough curtain raiser.

He caught three TD passes in that January shoot-out and went for 134 yards in the air on 10 grabs overall.

Let’s finish off our Chiefs vs Texans betting tips by taking 13/2 for Kelce to bag the opening touchdown of the new season.

Head-to-head: Chiefs 51-31 Texans, Chiefs 24-31 Texans, Texans 34-42 Chiefs, Texans 19-12 Chiefs
