The Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers will contest the World Series for the first time since 1916.
The Red Sox advanced to the MLB showpiece after eliminating defending champions the Houston Astros 4-1 to win the American League Championship.
After losing to the Astros in last year’s decider, the Dodgers will look to go one step better this time having disposed of the Milwaukee Brewers to clinch the National League Championship.
Homers from Cody Bellinger and Yasiel Puig helped the Dodgers dismiss the Brewers 5-1 in the deciding seventh game.
These two franchises have won 14 World Series titles between them (Red Sox 8, Dodgers 6) and have now contested for the MLB crown on 33 occasions.
Boston are back in a World Series for the first time since 2013 and are the odds-on favourites at 13/20 heading into the series, with Game 1 at Fenway Park on Tuesday night.
Martinez leading the way
The Red Sox led the league in runs, RBIs and batting average on their way to topping the American League East with a record of 108-54.
J.D. Martinez, on the list for American League MVP, has been a star performer and is batting .313 during the post-season with a team-high 10 hits, nine RBIs , two home runs and seven walks.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, finished top of the National League West with a 92-71 record as they return to the World Series for the second straight year.
The franchise has not lifted the championship since 1988 but pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner and seven-time All-Star, gets the nod for Game 1.
Kershaw will be up against fellow seven-time All-Star Chris Sale, with the pair among the best left-handers in the game.
Outfielder Puig was in stunning form throughout the NLCS and really produced the goods in Game Seven against the Brewers.
Puig’s three-run homer in the sixth inning extended Los Angeles’ lead in a tightly-fought battle, before Chris Taylor pulled off a miracle catch in left field.
Boston are the more balanced side so we are taking them to win the series 4-1 at 11/2 in our Los Angeles Dodgers vs Boston Red Sox betting predictions.
